Venue Spotlight - Oddfellows, Chester

Oddfellows, Chester

A Whimsical City Centre Wedding Dream

If you’re looking for a wedding venue that’s packed with personality, full of quirky charm, and right in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities in the North West, then let me introduce you to one of my all-time favourites: Oddfellows Chester.

Not only is it one of Chester’s most unique wedding venues, but it also holds a very special place in my heart because it was the venue where I photographed my very first wedding. All these years later, every time I walk through those doors, it still feels a little bit magical.

Why I Love Oddfellows

Oddfellows isn’t your typical wedding venue. It’s wonderfully whimsical, delightfully eccentric and full of unexpected details that make it feel completely different from anywhere else. Set within a beautiful Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in the centre of Chester, the venue perfectly blends historic character with playful design touches. Think rooftop terraces, hidden corners, quirky décor and spaces that make your guests smile the moment they arrive.

What I love most as a photographer is that it never feels overly formal. Couples who choose Oddfellows tend to want a wedding that’s relaxed, fun and genuinely reflective of who they are. The atmosphere encourages people to let their guard down, have a laugh and enjoy themselves, which always makes for brilliant photographs.

A Relaxed Wedding Venue With Flexible Catering Options

One of the biggest advantages of getting married at Oddfellows is how flexible it can be.

Whether you’re dreaming of a laid-back garden celebration with BBQ-style food, cocktails and sunshine, or a more traditional sit-down wedding breakfast, the helpful team can guide in creating a day that suits your style. The venue offers a range of spaces that can be adapted to different wedding sizes and vibes, making it ideal for couples who want something that feels personal rather than cookie-cutter.

The whole place feels designed around having a good time. From rooftop drinks receptions overlooking Chester’s iconic chimney tops to intimate dinners and lively evening celebrations, it has that rare ability to feel both stylish and completely unpretentious.

The Huge Benefit of a Chester City Centre Wedding

One of the things that makes Oddfellows such a standout wedding venue is its location; being right in the centre of Chester means couples have an incredible variety of photo opportunities literally on the doorstep.

If you’re happy to sneak away with me for twenty minutes during your drinks reception, we can create an entire gallery of images that look as though they were taken at multiple locations.

Within a short walk you’ve got:

  • The historic Chester Rows

  • The beautiful city walls

  • Charming cobbled streets

  • Hidden alleyways

  • Georgian architecture

  • The River Dee

  • Chester Cathedral surroundings

  • Urban city backdrops

  • Secret corners full of character

The beauty of a city centre wedding is that your photographs can have so much variety without needing to jump in a car or disappear from your guests for hours. One minute we’re creating romantic portraits against historic sandstone walls, the next we’re wandering through bustling city streets capturing something a little more fun and spontaneous.

For couples who love natural, relaxed photography, Chester provides the perfect playground.

A Photographer’s Perspective

As someone who specialises in natural, fun and relaxed wedding photography, Oddfellows is one of those venues that simply works.

The venue is filled with interesting light, unique interiors and beautiful outdoor spaces. From the rooftop terrace and secret garden to the quirky indoor rooms and elegant Georgian features, there are endless opportunities for creative photographs throughout the day.

But more importantly, it encourages people to enjoy themselves.

The best wedding photographs happen when people feel comfortable, and Oddfellows has a way of creating exactly that atmosphere. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and neither do the couples who choose it.

Would I Recommend Oddfellows Chester?

Absolutely.

It’s fun without being gimmicky, stylish without being stuffy, and relaxed without losing any of the excitement that makes a wedding day special.

Add in the incredible city centre location, the flexibility to create a day that feels uniquely yours, fantastic food options and a team who genuinely care about their couples, and it’s easy to see why Oddfellows remains one of Chester’s most loved wedding venues.

And for me personally, it will always have an extra layer of meaning. It was the venue where my wedding photography journey began, and every wedding I photograph there reminds me why I fell in love with documenting weddings in the first place.

If you’re planning an Oddfellows Chester wedding and are looking for a photographer who’ll capture all the laughter, emotion, chaos and joy exactly as it happens, I’d love to hear all about your plans ♡
